If you are one of the millions of readers fascinated with the historical implications raised in The Da Vinci Code and found yourself wanting more; if you are one of the millions of people struggling with weight issues and haven't found a program that fits; if you are one of the millions whose health has dampened your passion for life and are seeking real solutions, then Jesus' Diet… is a must read.
Few people realize that twenty-five years before the tremendous discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls, many of the same Essene teachings had already been uncovered. It began innocuously enough when an eighteen year old Valedictorian named Edmund Bordeaux Szekely gave a talk at his high school graduation ceremony entitled “Let St. Francis Sing In Your Heart.” It so moved the Headmaster of the monastery, that he sent it to an old friend, Monsignor Mercati, the Prefect of the Vatican Archives in Rome, who after reading the paper, subsequently invited the young man to come study in the Vatican Archives.
The day they met, Mercati asked young Szekely why he wanted to study in the archives and Szekely told him of his “desire to know the source of St. Francis' knowledge.” He later recalled the Monsignor's response was both “cryptic and fascinating…he told me that St. Francis was the ocean, and I must find the River nourishing it just as he did, and then I must look for the Stream. And then if I am firmly on the path, I will find the Source.”
Szekely spent many months buried in ancient manuscripts and was even allowed access to off-limit areas within the 25 miles of bookshelves that lay beneath the Vatican . The Prefect even made special arrangements so Szekely could have full access to the Scriptorium at the Benedictine Monastery in Monte Cassino. There he poured over documentation about the life and teachings of Jesus that had never been seen; unexpurgated editions of the great historians Flavius Josephus, Philo and Plinius along with numerous other Latin classics. As Szekely put it:
“Many of these priceless works had generally been considered long lost, and I read and read through a treasure trove of unbelievable richness.” He continues:
“I had found the source: Hebrew fragments of the Essene Gospel, the Aramaic version of which I had just read from the shelves of Monsignor Mercati's locked room.”
Upon returning to the Vatican Mercati only had to see his face and he knew,
“You have found the source.”
“How do you know?” young Szekely replied.
“Because, my son, you have that look.”
At that point the young man could no longer hold back the tears.
“What shall I do father?” he cried.
The answer Monsignor Mercati gave him could very well change the world.
“Let St. Francis sing in your heart.” the monsignor advised.
